US parliamentarians announced that China lied about the toll it had released to the victims of the emerging coronavirus on its soil, stressing that the true number of deaths from the epidemic is much higher, while Beijing responded to the "immoral" allegations.
During his daily press conference at the White House on developments in the fight against the "Covid 19" epidemic in the United States, the US President was asked about this, but he did not respond clearly.
He said: "Their numbers seem a little under reality." He added further, "On knowing whether their numbers are correct, I am not a Chinese accountant."
On Wednesday, Bloomberg News reported that a "confidential report" was presented to the White House last week.
Intelligence estimates, according to the agency, that the number of deaths and infections with the newly created Corona virus, which has been announced in China, is wrong and out of date.
"The Communist Party of China has lied and is lying and will continue to lie about the new Corona virus in order to protect the system," said Republican Senator Ben Sassi.
And his colleague in the House of Representatives, William Timmons, said that "American intelligence confirmed what we know mainly: China hid the seriousness of the virus for months," saying that "the world is paying today the price of their mistake."
Michael McFaul, one of the most prominent Republicans on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, based on this report also, noted that the Chinese authorities "concealed the true toll of people with the disease."
The Chinese Foreign Ministry responded to these allegations, considering the US skepticism about the inaccuracy of Beijing's statements about Corona as "shameful and immoral."
Beginning with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the US administration has criticized China in recent weeks, saying it has not committed to transparency about the seriousness of the spread of the disease in the world, but it has not yet accused Beijing of lying in the death toll.
And the coordinator of the crisis cell formed in the White House to combat the epidemic seemed to confirm that the announced Chinese outcome is less than reality.
"I think the medical staff saw through the Chinese numbers that the matter is dangerous but it is less than raising concerns, probably in light of what we see now in Italy and Spain because we do not have a large number of data," said Dr. Deborah Perks.
And China, where it recorded the first infection with "Covid 19", declared that 3,312 people died and 81,554 people were infected with the virus, which are lower numbers than those recorded in the United States so far (4,700 deaths and 209 thousand cases), according to the Johns Hopkins University reference census.
But many experts see that the Chinese numbers are much lower than the real number, based on the large number of families applying to receive the ashes of their relatives, benefiting from the lifting of isolation procedures in Wuhan, where the disease appeared.
