The date of Mother’s Day differs from one country to another, for example in the Arab world it is the first day of the spring semester, that is March 21, while in Norway it is celebrated on February 2 ,in Argentina it is October 3, and South Africa celebrates it on May 1.
In the United States, the celebration takes place on the second Sunday of May each year.
The first Mother’s Day celebration was in 1908, when Anna Jarvis marked her mother’s birthday in America. Then she began a campaign to make Mother's Day recognized in the United States. Despite her success in 1914, she was disappointed in the 1920s, because they stated that she did this for the sake of trade. Cities adopted the day of Jefferson and are now celebrated all over the world. In this tradition, everyone presents a gift, card or memory to mothers and grandmothers.
In some countries, they changed the date to suit most religions, such as the Feast of the Virgin Mary in the Catholic countries. Other countries have chosen a date of historical importance, such as Mother's Day, Pluvia, a date for the battle in which women participated.
Former communist cities such as: East Germany used to celebrate International Socialist Women's Day instead of Mother's Day but some former communist cities like Russia still followed this custom, or celebrated both holidays, usually in Ukraine.
