The authorities of New South Wales, Australia's most populous state, have submitted a proposal to Parliament to release prisoners who are at risk of being infected with the most severe virus, and which are less dangerous to society, under the Early Amnesty Law.
The state’s prison population is 14,000, and it has not been established how many prisoners will meet the requirements of the legislation proposed by New South Wales Attorney General Mark Speikman.
The emergency law includes a set of reforms that the spokesman said will give the public authorities the powers they need to cope with the emergency crisis caused by the Coruna epidemic.
"The threat posed by the Corona virus is developing rapidly, and the needs of families, companies, workers and governments are changing on a daily basis," Speakman said in a statement.
A week ago, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison asked his citizens not to travel abroad at all, in an unprecedented step in the country's history, aimed at curbing the Corona epidemic.
Last Saturday, the Australian authorities closed Bondi Beach in Sydney in front of its pioneers, in an attempt to contain the Corona virus, whose number in Australia exceeded one thousand, while the number of deaths reached 5 individuals.
The Australian Football Association (CFA) competition was halted due to the Corona virus crisis, on Tuesday, and competition organizers said the competition could no longer continue.
