The Washington Post revealed that, in January and February, the CIA alerted secretly that the Corona virus (Covid 19) had turned into a global pandemic, but President Donald Trump underestimated that warning. The newspaper added that Trump and US lawmakers played down the intelligence warning and failed to take measures that would curb the spread of the epidemic that has infected more than 19,770 people within the United States.
The US intelligence did not specify, at the time, the likely date of the virus reaching or spreading it on American soil on a large scale, but it was aware of the outbreaks in China and other countries.
The American intelligence was satisfied with noting the frequency of the spread of the virus, and warned that the Chinese authorities are trying to reduce the severity of the disease because they do not reveal accurate information about the health status.
Earlier, Trump praised his administration's efforts to rein in the Corona virus because it had imposed rapid restrictions on entry to the Chinese or people who visited the Asian country, but the United States soon saw a significant rise in the number of people infected. "Trump might not have expected this to happen," said an official, who declined to be named, "but other government officials were waiting for things to get worse, but they couldn't get Trump to do anything."
US Central and National Intelligence, comment on the "Washington Post" report on Trump's disregard of the upcoming epidemic.
The White House attacked "skeptics"
Meanwhile, a White House spokesperson said that President Trump has taken strict and historic measures to protect Americans' health, well-being, and safety.
Hogan Gedley added that it is "disgusting" for sources, not named, to try to rewrite history and deny Trump's efforts to protect American health.
A number of American health experts have accused China of hiding the virus when it began to circulate, saying that Beijing wasted precious time that could limit the transmission of corona to other countries of the world.
In late January and early February, US intelligence officials increased the severity of the warning and constantly alerted to a worsening situation.
The newspaper reported, that Senator Richard Burr, who had seen the intelligence warning, attempted to sell shares worth $ 628,000 in an attempt to avoid any possible loss if the financial markets tumbled.
But Bohr defended himself, and denied that he had taken advantage of intelligence reports to protect his shares on the stock exchange, adding that he had taken the step of selling based on information available to the general public in financial markets.
